Is my game cancelled if the weather is bad?
Every season there will be days when the weather is threatening, and you may wonder whether or not the game or practice will be cancelled.
The only time that West Ottawa Soccer will cancel activities is if the City of Ottawa closes fields. We will not cancel anything in advance due to weather conditions. It can be pouring rain in Morgan's Grant and beautiful and sunny in Richmond. Please go to your game or practice as scheduled. Coaches and referees will make a decision at the field based on local conditions and any thunder or lightning.
The OSA's rule of thumb for thunder lightning is:
If you see it, flee it,
If you hear it, clear it.
A few words regarding these programs.
In the past, players in the range of U4 - U8 were always considered part of the Recreational program. The formation of West Ottawa Soccer has provided an opportunity to correct this.
Players in the ages of U4 - U11 and playing in recreational programs will not be considered or referred to as "Recreational" players inside the WOS club. Instead, these players will be part of an overall Development program and as such referred to as "Development" groups.
This is an important differentiation as the LTAD framework has show very clearly that making a distinction between Rec Vs Competitive too early is counter productive to young athletes for a variety of reasons.
As WOS moves forward, additional changes will be applied to these age groups, but not for the 2011 playing season. If you would like additional information related to this, please contact the club office.
Placement Requests
WOS has a new policy regarding Team Placement Requests
Player requests will only be granted if two players request to play with each other. Only one player request per person is allowed. Players cannot request a particular Coach. Coaches may not request players. All placement requests will be granted at the sole discretion of the Convenor.
Placement requests must be made to the convenor of the age group. Until convenors are assigned, placement requests for U8 to U11 should be sent to mini@wosc.com.
