  • The West Ottawa Soccer GU17L4 team won their division at the Fairport NY tournament on the July 9th and 10th weekend. Congratulations girls!
  • It was an unexpected end to a long, hot weekend. The West Ottawa Soccer Girls U13 L5 pooled team, having spent three days in Rochester, N.Y. slogging it out in the heat, began the long trek home Sunday, July 10, thinking the best they had earned was second place. It wouldn’t be until the tournament ended hours later that the girls would find out they had, in fact, won gold. Team members had traveled to Rochester the previous Friday to play in the Greece Cobras Summer Classic Soccer Tournament, a round-robin tournament of four games. The Warriors had a strong start Saturday, roaring to a 7-0 victory over the Northtowns Lady Inferno with speed and ball control to their advantage. Their second match saw WOS play a local rival, the Gloucester Hornets Swarm, winning 3-1. Despite this, the end of the day showed the Warriors in second place behind tournament hosts Greece Cobras on goal differentials. A matchup between these two leading teams loomed for Sunday afternoon. First though, the Warriors started Sunday by beating Irondequiot 6-0. The heat and cloudless sky took a toll on the team, as they struggled to find energy for their final and most challenging game of the weekend. A win would guarantee tournament gold; a tie would likely result in silver as the leading Cobras had one more game to play. In a gritty performance the Warriors again controlled play and withstood some quick runs by their opponents. However, neither team could find the back of the net and battled to a 0-0 draw. With the Cobras yet to play their final game against the weaker Inferno, the exhausted and dejected Warriors packed up and headed on their long drives home, certain that their final showing would be silver. It was later that afternoon during the drive, however, that they learned that their game must have taken a toll on the Cobras, too. The Cobras had managed only a 1-0 win against the Inferno. That result gave the Warriors the gold based on goal differential. The good news hopped from car to car via text message and the Warriors arrived back in Ottawa as tournament champions. The girls now eagerly await receipt of their hard-earned gold medals. Congratulations, Warriors! Ajai Puri
  • The WOS U11G Premier A Team won 1st place in the 15th Annual Cameron Memorial Tournament in Quinte West on August 6-7, 2011. "The girls played excellent possession soccer on their way into 1st place overcoming teams from Ottawa, Belleville, Kingston and Toronto. They showed courage and grew as a team even when going behind. They survived a nerve racking penalty shootout (this gave the parents more excitement than expected) and finally won a very physical final 4-2 against a strong Cumberland team. Excellent job girls." - Linda Paul Congratulations to the team (photo below): Back row L-R – Coach Jim Paul, Yasmina Khan-Poulin, Sophie Thomas, Beth Weisskopf, Kayleigh Paul, Michaela Tourigny, Fiona Brunka, Coach Paul Tomaszewski Front row L-R – Amanda Smith, Sydney Caulfield, Faith Tomaszewski, Morgan Cutts, Deena Fremont, Macayla Lewis, Sydney Lyndon

Proud coach of last weekend's 2nd place Ice Breaker winners John Taylor shares the highlights: "The L5 Red Warriors did very well over the weekend as well Ben Robillard and I had several coaching moments this weekend watching the Red Warriors play against strong opposition where they played possession soccer with a purpose. With a total team effort from keeper to the strikers, cheers of encouragement from the bench and the parents on the sidelines, the L5 Red Warriors ended up first in their pool one point ahead of the L4 Nepean City team. With the fields closed for game play the L5 Red Warriors headed into the shoot out rounds of the tournament, in the shoot out rounds the L5 Red Warriors worked their way to the gold final against the L4 Ottawa Royals team which they ended up winning, with the L5 Red Warriors winning the silver medal."
