Summer Camp Information

Players will be encouraged to work on all their soccer skills. In just one week of camp some players will get more touches on the ball than they do in a whole season. 

Half Day Program (U5-U7)

This half-day (9am to 12pm) program is geared to U5-U7 players. The children will each have a ball to play with at almost all times. Learning how to dribble and kick the ball properly will be the focus of the week.  This program is offered half-days for two reasons. Children at this age should not be exposed to any one activity for a long period of time and they are also too young to go swimming without one on one adult supervision.

Full Day Program U8-U13

This program is suited for children at any soccer skill level. Players who have not played organized soccer before will have a great time learning about the game. Competitive players who join us will benefit from a week of extra touches. We will cover the fundamental skills of dribbling, passing, receiving and shooting in a fun learning environment.

For optimal development, players of like ability will often be grouped together.

Registration

Enter the registration system by clicking the “Register” button above. Log in or create a Family Account for you and your child. Once an account has been created, you will be able to see each of the available weeks of camp for your child. At the end of the online registration process, you will be asked to make payment.  You can choose to pay with a credit card at that time. If you prefer to pay in person at the Club Office, select “Office Payment” and visit our office at 1927 Richardson Side Road to complete the registration using a cheque, debit or credit card. If it is more convenient, you can mail a cheque to West Ottawa SC,  P.O. 91013, Kanata, ON, K2T 0A3, Canada.

Proof of Purchase

Your receipt will be available within your Family Account after payment is made. Unless otherwise specified, your spot at camp is not reserved until payment is complete. If you are registering within one week of camp, please print your receipt and bring it with you.

Coach to Player Ratio

For optimal development and safety we aim to keep a low player to coach ratio of 8:1 for half day camps and 6:1 half day camps.

Volunteer Assistant Coaches

Our volunteer assistant coaches are members interested in giving back to the club and community. Over the course of 5 weeks of camp we will use approximately 15 volunteers to help the camps run smoothly. We treat the volunteers as an extension of our staff giving them an opportunity to see camp from a coach’s perspective. Typically campers will form bonds with these young role models leaving a memorable experience for both. Anyone interested in this role can apply above.

Lunches

Participants need to bring an adequate amount of food. During the day they will be very active and ample amounts of food will be needed for energy. Our camps are PEANUT FREE so please avoid brining those items. We encourage campers to eat healthy and avoid junk food but ultimately it is up to the athlete and you what they eat. For best results, we recommended a well balanced diet over the course of the week.

At the Goulbourne location there is an option to purchase a lunch on site. See the details below.

Hydration

Each player should have their own water bottle at camp. They will be encouraged to carry their water with them throughout the day and drink periodically to stay hydrated. This should be continued during the evening to recover from the days activities. 

Rest

Camp comes with reward but is demanding. It is crucial that participating players get a good night’s sleep and avoid other strenuous activities.

Swimming

Each day, we go swimming for 1hr in the afternoon. Outdoors at the Beaverbrook Pool when at Earl of March in Kanata and indoors at the GRC when in Stittsville. Anyone not wishing to swim can sit poolside. Our staff and City of Ottawa lifeguards will oversee the pool area. Here are the City standards we adhere too.

  • All Children 7 years of age and under, regardless of swimming ability, must be directly supervised (within arms’ reach) of a responsible person 16 years of age or older.
  • Children 10 years of age and under who do not pass the swim test must be supervised (close proximity and able to render assistance) by a responsible person.
  • Anyone who does not pass the swim test must remain in shallow water.
  • Proper bathing attire must be worn in the water.
What To Bring Checklist
  • Soccer Ball – We have extras if you don’t have one

  • T-Shirt, Short & Soccer Socks
  • Track top and pant for cooler days
  • Hat – Welcome to be worn during outdoor activity
  • Water Bottle – We have access to good water for refills
  • Sunscreen & Bug Spray

Additionally for those in the full day program

  • Flip flops, sandals or shoes – For entry into the pool

To assist with keeping track of everything, please write your name on all your belongings including clothing tags. Leave expensive items at home. Staff will be helpful but ultimately not responsible for items that go missing.

Bad Weather

If it is raining lightly, then we will continue playing outside. If the rain gets heavier we hang out under a tent or inside. Any sign of thunder or lightning and you will always find us inside until the weather passes.

Arrival on Day 1

In Kanata please meet on the second floor of Earl of March High School. In Stittsville when you arrive, please come to the GRC East soccer field (closest to Shea Road). A Staff member will be there for you to sign in your child.  Parents are welcome at camp any time. Feel free to stay at the beginning of camp if your child will be more comfortable. Their comfort is of utmost importance to us. 

Start / Finish Time

Full Day: 8:30am to 4:30pm 

Half Day: 9:00am to 12:00pm

Early drop off 8:30am

Late pick up 5:00pm

Training will be from 9am to 4pm. The closer participants can be dropped off / picked up by those times the better. Give yourself ample time when traveling to camp at the end of the day. Arriving after 5:00 PM is frowned upon as our staff typically have evening coaching commitments they need to travel too and often eat as well. DO NOT BE LATE.  Please 🙂 

Sign In / Sign Out

Please sign your child in when you arrive and out when they depart. Injuries: It is not uncommon for a player to make incidental contact with another player or the ball. This can sometimes cause injury. Without changing the game too much we will do everything possible to prevent injuries by creating a safe environment. Minor injuries will be treated on site. Whenever an injury serious in nature prevents a player from participating for an extended period a parent will be contacted. We will provide temporary care for the player but arrangements for pick up will be made as soon as possible.
